Born in Pueblo, Colorado, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Olive P. McDonald. She graduated from Pueblo Catholic High School, Pueblo Jr. College, Colorado State Teachers College (BA), and The University of Southern Colorado (MA). She worked at Pueblo School District 60 as a teacher of 32 years.
She was a member of Christ the King Parish, the Arkansas Valley Chapter NSDAR, Colorado State Society, and the Colonial Dames XVII Century. She enjoyed knitting and playing bridge. She will be remembered for being encouraging, and her friendly manner.
LaVone is survived by her children Roberta M. Shonk and John J. Shonk, MD (Pamela); granddaughter Gailey E. Shonk; as well as Alfred Shonk, Thomas Shonk, Robert Shonk, Anthony Wardwell, Lani Albert, and Nathan Wardwell.
A rosary will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 6pm at Christ the King Parish.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10am at Christ the King Parish. LaVone will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2pm.
