Lew was a wonderful father-in-law and an even better friend to me. When my own father passed away unexpectedly he stepped in, in a way that I will always cherish. I will never forget a few months after we lost my Dad, I had told Lew how much I missed hearing my Dad's voice. So the night of Micaela's 2nd birthday he walked in with a video tape of the last time both families were together and simply said, " you can hear your Dad laughing and talking on this." It was the best thing anyone had done. Classic Lew, caring and loving in quiet little ways. We had a strong bond in the years following. The one thing we made sure to do was talk Every Thursday when Betty went to get her hair done. It made my day to have those conversations and catch up. Even as the years went on we talked at least once a month. In the past few years as his health declined we were unable to, but I will hold close, every conversation before, no matter how short or how funny each was. Thank you Lew for being such an important person in my life, and Thank you for being the best Papa in the world for Samantha and Micaela. Your presence here will be missed. We know you will be watching over everyone until we meet again. 

Every summer we use to stay a few weeks at Grammy and papa’s and after we would take our afternoon naps we would sit down and eat frozen grapes sitting in papa’s lap watching TV.  
The past few years going through college and life I was over at Grammy papa’a almost every weekend and papa would tell me about his books he’s been listening too while eating ice cream or pie. These conversations turned into him giving me a life lesson or advice for life. Most of the time I laughed at him thinking I was too cool too get advice from my grandfather but looking back at it all, he was truly someone who showed me what life was and made me know I was special and deserved great things. 
Micaela and I had went to visit papa a few days before he passed and we asked him what he wanted to do for the day and his response was to run away..we asked if he wanted to go to college with Micaela and help her pick up some boys he said no, then we asked if he wanted to come home with me and change diapers he said no, then we asked if he wanted to go ice fishing he said yes (one of his favorite things) we asked him how it feels to be a great grandpa and he laughed and said he was old. Even in hard times he always found a way to make everyone laugh. 

One of my most favorite memories is from when I was little and I spent a week with Grammy and Papa. Grammy had given us fudgesicles for a snack and said only one for the day. When Grammy left later that day to go get her hair done papa and I were outside playing cards and writing notes back and forth on a piece of paper. I had asked him for another fudgesicle so he went inside and snuck us some more and to this day Grammy still doesn't know. I will forever cherish so many moments and memories I have with Papa. He has been the greatest man in my life and I'm so glad to call him my grandpa. I love you forever Papa!
