

She is survived by her daughter Maxine (Rev Dr. Waymon, deceased) Carter of Mobile, AL, her grandchildren Royce (Nekol) Carter of Saraland, AL, and Rochelle (Colin) Wilson of Montclair, NJ, great-granddaughters Ranae (Bernard) Boone of Denton, TX, Violet (Tad) Carter-Wells of (West Memphis, AK) , Adia Wilson and grandson Mekki, both of Montclair, NJ, great-great-grandsons Jose and Dante Boone, Denton, TX. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Willie Lee Banks of Pueblo, Colorado, and granddaughter Maxine Louise Carter. She leaves behind a host of family and friends who are sadder but richly blessed by the experience of knowing and loving her.
She was born on a bright, brisk Saturday, December 28, 1918 in South Austin, TX to the union of Gilfret Sr. and Mattie Louise Hunt. She graduated from Madame CJ Walker Beauty School as a cosmetologist and worked diligently as a hairdresser to put herself through nursing school. She distinguished herself as a surgical scrub nurse until her retirement from Parkview Hospital after more than 20 years of service. Inspired by her example, her daughter Maxine became a nurse. She remembers her loving mother as one who encouraged her and all she loved to pursue their very best lives.
Lucille was an accomplished musician, gardener, and world traveler. She was a generous, witty, and dedicated woman who loved her family and who was passionate about lifelong learning. She was dedicated Christian woman and volunteered whenever she saw a need.
A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2016 at Imperial Gardens in Pueblo, Colorado with a reception to follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Pastor Orval Miles of New Bethany Baptist Church will officiate the ceremony, with Pastors Charlie Sankey of New Hope Baptist and Pastor Bobby Jackson of Bethlehem Baptist Church attending. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs. Bank’s life.
