Lynda Joyce Berg, 62, (Shumate) nee’ Mitchell, passed away March 6, 2025 at her home in Pueblo, Colorado from cancer. She was the wife of loving husband Mark Berg. Lynda was born on 2/08/1963 in Burnsville, NC. to Dixie Seemann, nee’ Americus and Edward Mitchell. She was preceded in death by both parents and her older sisters Karen and Paula and her older brother Dallas and her nephew Tyler Eden. Her younger brother Eddie and younger sister Nancy Marie are still residing in NC.
The family moved to Canon City, CO in 1974. When they first came to Colorado Lynda thought that the trees were bushes…definitely some culture shock! Lynda attended Canon City High School, Class of 1981 and then attended Pueblo Community College to study banking and bookkeeping. She was employed at Pueblo Bank & Trust for almost 6 years and she was only 5 years away from retirement. She was an avid reader, loved spending time with her kids and grandbabies and also going to car shows with Mark. Her favorite place to be was the ocean and she made several trips to both coasts and the Gulf of Mexico as well as an Alaskan Cruise to see as much of the ocean as possible. Her retirement goal was to live by the ocean and have mountains around them.
Lynda had a serious demeanor but as soon as you got to know her you would find out that she was a loving, caring person who loved her kids and dogs almost as much as she loved her grandbabies.
She is survived by her loving husband Mark Berg, her daughter Maegan Singleterry, her son Jacob Shumate (Maya) and her grandbabies Scott (Maegan) and Athena (Jacob) and her two bonus daughters Robin Thornton and Dynah Stephens. Her bonus family includes Mark’s son Frank (Tara), their son Lance and daughter Ellis. She was also close with Mark’s brothers and their families – Dennis (Karen) and their children, daughter Denice (Casey) her son Jackson, son Jeremy; son Kurt (Jenna), their kids Milo, Mayzie and Sunny; daughter Kara, her kids Carter and Cayson, and son Kyle Moulton. Marks brother Darron (Debbie) their children, daughter Lyndee, her son Roy, daughter Caitlin and her son Bayne. And last, but not least, Marks brother Marvin (Danelle) and their children, son Christopher (Kat) their daughter Natalie, son Logan, and daughters Emmerson, Jordan and Oakley; son Ethan (Megan) and their youngest son Jerrod (Shelby).
Lynda’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 15th 2025 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm at The Villa Pueblo Senior Living Community, 1111 Bonforte Blvd., Pueblo, Colorado. The Penthouse will be open 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm for friends and family to gather for conversation and refreshments.
