Marcelina Velasco-Spinuzzi, born October 12, 1925, began her journey to her eternal life on February 21, 2022. She was born in Pueblo, Colorado, and is predeceased by her parents Henrietta Diaz-Velasco and J. Jesus Velasco. She was a Central High Alumna and began her career in food service at the Canteen Restaurant in the 1940s. She ended her career, retiring in 1988 from D60 food service. If asked for her occupation, she would say homemaker and caring her for family.
She was an active member of the Shrine of St. Therese Church for 70 years, and was very active in their chapter of CCW. She faithfully helped clean the church weekly well into her 90s.
Mom as an avid reader and loved sharing books with her grandchildren. She loved to sing and dance. At a young age, she and her brother were taught to play the violin, and together with her sisters on keyboards, they held family concerts in their family living room. She especially loved to dance with her husband of 45 years. The two of them could do a mean jitterbug!
Mom was a quintessential nurturer evidenced by her faithful dedication to the Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen and Food For The Poor. She offered food to anyone who entered her home. Her Daisy The Cow cookie jar was never empty. She raised a brood of cookie monsters. She cared for her brothers and sisters after her mom’s death. Mom selflessly cared for others before herself. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her children Marcia Jo Spinuzzi, Rietta (Jim Hallberg) Spinuzzi, Dr. Joe G. (Liz) Spinuzzi, and Carl R (Dru) Spinuzzi; grandchildren Terra L. (Chase) Sloat, Tyler D. Spinuzzi, Tori A. Spinuzzi, Lindsey R. Spinuzzi, and Shanon R. (Daniel) Park and great granddaughter Ada Kay Sloat
