Marilyn Zorko, 80, passed away on October 30, 2023, with family by her side. She was born on March 29, 1943, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Elizabeth (Sabo) and Clarence Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Zorko, her parents, and her brothers Alan Smith and Les Smith.
She is survived by her children, Gary Zorko, Lya (Aaron) Johnson, Janelle (Richard) Schultz, and Beth Zorko, her grandson Adam Zorko, her sister-in-law Mary Ann Yuill, and her sister Carol (Smith) Ewing, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marilyn never met a stranger. She loved mingling and making friends. She volunteered in her church, was a Eucharistic minister, and enjoyed playing Bingo with her fellow parishioners. She loved crafting and making beautiful things for others and travelling with friends and family.
In the last few years, she lived at the Pueblo Regent and the Bonaventure of Pueblo, making many friends along the way. Her longest lasting friendships include those with the people she worked with at AG Warehouse, the City of Pueblo (including the DA’s office and Public Works), her long-time neighbors, and with her life-long friend, Cathy Herr. The family thanks each and every one of these friends for the love and support they gave her through the years.
Marilyn battled multiple cancers through the last 10 years of her life. As many have said, she was “one tough lady.” She always had a smile.
The family would like to give special thanks to the many nurses, caretakers, and staff with the Sangre de Cristo Community Care Hospice. They were so kind and supportive, not only to Marilyn, but to the family, as well. The staff at the Joni Fair Hospice House were amazing and ensured Marilyn was able to pass peacefully. The family will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, Marilyn’s family asks that you consider making a donation to the Sangre de Cristo Community Care Hospice in her name. https://www.sangre.org/donate-now2/
