Martha M. Carrillo was born on 12-03-1926 in Springer, New Mexico. Her parents, Hermino and Domecinda Sisneros, raised ten children. Martha was the seventh child born in the family. The youngest member of the family remaining is Joe Sisneros.
Martha is preceded in death by eight siblings; husband, Nate Carrillo; and two children, Leo Lopez Jr. and Leo L. Lopez. Her remaining children are Tim Lopez, Betty (Art) Luna, Pete Lopez and Kathy Rodriguez, Richard (Toni) Lopez, and Cecilia Ramos. Martha had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Martha worked at the Town House Restaurant in the early 1950s as a waitress. I remember her coming home with her little white bag filled with change (her tips). Later, she went to work at the State Hospital in food service. She retired there at age 65. After a brief period, she went to work at Burrito Betty's, her daughter's business.
Initially, she worked in the kitchen and was promoted to assistant bookkeeper. She did this job till age eighty-nine. Everything was done by pencil and paper. When she went to the bank, everything was correct right down to the penny.
Brother Pete enjoyed small talk with mother. She talked about her youth, comparing it to the show "The Waltons". They talked about the Great Depression and the effect it had. They lived in a farm raising vegetables, canning goods, and sheep for meat. They didn't suffer at all.
All ten siblings sitting on the long homemade table, a long bench on each side. Five on each side with Dad and Mom on the ends.
On my part, I would like to say I was always kind and respectful to her. We enjoyed mutual humor. An example being, I was taking her home and I stopped at her house. She looked at me and said, "Who lives here?" I said, "Mother." She responded, "Do I know you?" and then started laughing.
A special thanks to Maggie and the other wonderful people from hospice for everything they did. Our mom really liked Maggie. She always listened to Mom and was very respectful.
