She had a remarkable life as a teacher, world traveler and volunteer. She taught math at Corwin Junior High for 25 years and was math department chair for much of that time. Her entire teaching career spanned 32 years. She was active in many educational associations throughout her career. The American Association of University Women in Pueblo named her one of their Outstanding Women in 1982.
Her volunteering activities were extensive after retiring from teaching in 1982. She spent countless hours in the gift shop of the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center and held several positions including president and treasurer of the Arts Center Associates. She also volunteered at the Pueblo Zoo, the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and delivered Meals on Wheels as well as serving on several nonprofit boards.
One of her greatest achievements was building her home. She studied architecture, building codes and took a drafting course in order to make her own blueprints and act as her own general contractor. She and her dad did much of the work themselves. What an accomplishment.
Milly is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James A. Carter, her niece, Jami Pond and her nephew, Kent Carter. She is survived by sister-in-law, Keith Carter, nephew, Craig Carter and longtime friend, Linda Stone.
