August 30, 1928 – September 9, 2018
Nick Runco, 90, passed unexpectedly this past week. Nick was born & raised in the Goat Hill area of Pueblo, where he learned a work ethic that enabled him to become a successful business owner, including his namesake Nick’s Dairy Crème, where he was known as the face of Nick’s Dairy Crème for his friendly interaction with customers. Nick proudly served two tours of duty in the United States Marine Corps, first in WWII and again during the Korean Conflict. After the Marine Corps, Nick became an avid hunter and was never at a loss for a story of one of his hunting trips or his experiences as a Marine. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip & Lizzie; younger brother, Guy; his beloved wife and partner in life, Doris; & his eldest son, Ricky. He is survived by his sister, Mary Petersen; his children, Nikki (Bill) Taylor, Phillip (Sara) Runco & daughter-in-law, Nancy Runco; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including honorary family members, Derrick (Paula) McCabe, Travis (Jessica) Wodiuk & Mike Trochan. Nick loved his family tremendously, and lived life to the fullest. Services will be held in the T.G. McCarthy Chapel, 329 Goodnight Avenue, on Monday, September 17, 2018; viewing, 9 a.m., & service at 10 a.m.

Dearest Nikki, Bill and all the Runco family,
We were so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. Nikki, no matter how old we are, or our dad, it is never easy.
May you find some comfort in knowing friends care about you both. Keep your dad's memories close to your heart - - - forever!

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of my cousin. Sadly, I haven't seen Nick through-
out my many years in Denver however, I will always remember him walking around the house singing the song "Buttermilk Sky's" and going to his first Dairy Queen.
Rest in Peace Nick.

I remember when I first met Uncle Nick I commented to Jimmy what beautiful eyes he had, I think I said bedroom eyes. Of course Jimmy couldn't wait to tell him, and he joked with me about it every time I saw him. I am truly blessed to be a part of the Runco family. He will be missed.

Nick used to come and visit me at the bank. He used to come into my office and tell me about his life. He always had a wonderful story about his memories of the service and his wife and family. I always enjoyed seeing and listening to him. I considered Nick a friend and I am really going to miss him. He was a wonderful and kind man and he will be missed.

I really did not know Nick and only met him a couple months ago outside Jimmy Johns when I helped him to his truck. But, he and I had a 15 or 20 minute chat that day.
He talked about his service to our country and we discussed the fact that my parents used to take me to his Dairy Creme. I found him to be a very proud, interesting, respectful and appreciative man.
I am sad to see he has passed, but I am glad he and I got to meet and introduce ourselves to each other that day. RIP Nick.
