Another Funeral Service in memory of Nicki will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel at Resthaven Cemetery in Des Moines, IA, where her ashes will be laid to rest.
Nicki passed away peacefully in her sleep. While the cause of death is still uncertain, Nicki had not been feeling well recently. It is our belief at this time that she succumbed to complications caused by dangerously low potassium levels, for which she was being treated.
Nicki loved living large and going all in, whatever the outcome. She was stubborn and unfiltered and usually didn't listen to doctors, or really anyone else for that matter. However, her heart was huge and loyal, and her laugh lit up any room.
Her one true joy was raising her boyfriend Paul's five children and she finally became the mother she wanted to be. The children characterized her as extremely loving and caring. The family spent time together building jigsaw puzzles and watching Bronco games. During summer vacation, they could be found splashing and playing in a swimming pool. We are quite sure she sprouted gills and fins in the summer.
Nicki also cherished her dogs, Maverick and Tank, who will miss her snuggles.
While Nicki had much love in her life, she was deeply tormented by guilt, shame, and blame that she tried to outrun. She lived with many regrets from her past. We believe her soul is finally at peace, and she was greeted and embraced by her grandparents who were waiting to take her home.
