Pamela grew up in Monte Vista, Colorado, loving to ride horses and becoming one heck of a horsewoman. In her teen years, she had the honor of being an attendant of the Royal Court for the Ski Hi Stampede Rodeo. Pamela lived a joyous and fruitful life; she loved to read, crochet, can, and fish with the love of her life, Richard. Pamela met Richard Kent McKinney while attending Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado, and they married in 1962. Goodness gracious could those two dance! Soon, Richard Kent McKinney ll was born. The family of three moved to Borger, Texas, where Jay Paul and Joseph Allen were born in 1967 and 1969. Now a family of five, they loaded up the truck once again and moved to Amarillo, Texas. While in Amarillo, Pamela was employed as a bookkeeper, but most of all, she was a wife, mom, and homemaker. She was active in the community and assisted in the establishment of the Chapel of Light Recovery Center. After 13 years in Texas, the McKinney family headed to Pueblo, Colorado.
Once all of the kids had graduated, Richard took a job in Germany, and Pamela and Richard were off to travel Europe, visiting various castles, landmarks, and neighboring countries – and Pamela discovered her great love of travel and shopping. After several years in Germany, Pamela and Richard relocated to Seoul, South Korea, where Pamela continued to enjoy all the world has to offer. After a few years in Seoul, Pamela and Richard returned to their home in Pueblo, Colorado, to live out their lives together surrounded by family and friends. Pamela loved her children, but her greatest joy in life was her grand- and great grandchildren.
Pamela was preceded in death by her husband Richard Kent McKinney, brother Claude “Butch” Merrifield, granddaughters Cassandra Routt and Kendra McKinney, and great grandson James Routt. She is survived by her sister Barbara Groves, sister-in-law Maureen Merrifield, three sons (Richard Kent McKinney II, Jay Paul (Becky) McKinney, and Joseph Allen McKinney), three grandsons, two granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and many loving friends.
Pamela will be laid to rest with the love of her life in the Urraca Pioneer Cemetery. Family and friends will be notified of the date and time.
Donations to the Urraca Cemetery Association would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
