

He graduated from Centennial High School; and served in the United States Marine Corps as a Korean War Combat Veteran, 1951-1953, where he was a Bronze Star recipient. He was also awarded the National Defense Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal with two bronze stars, Korea Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Rifle Expert Badge, and Marine Pistol Marksman Badge. Later, Richard was a Safety Director for the Department of Defense
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans Council, Veterans Affairs, Korean War Veterans Association, and Disabled American Veterans.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Beverly C. (Eagon) Whitmore; his parents, Chester and Catharine Whitmore; in-laws, Walter and Gladys Eagon, special son-in-law, Bill Springer; brother-in-law, Richard Alsup; sister-in-law, Norma Ferguson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Whitmore; nephews, Timothy Whitmore and Billy Whitmore.
He is survived by children, Pamela (Ronald) Tucker, Kara Springer, his favorite spoiled Kathy (Paul) Cullison, Michael (Suzanne) Whitmore; grandchildren, Toby (Angella) Springer, Ashley (Kurtis) Bachman, Paul Cullison, II, Bradley Cullison, and great-grandchildren, Abbie Cullison, Noah Cullison, Lelund Bachman, Bella Springer; brother, Barrie Whitmore, brother, Robert Whitmore, sister, Patricia Alsup, and brother-in-law, Robert Ferguson; numerous nieces and nephews; Special family friends, Gwen Gahm, Tel Fehlhafer, Tyrell Fehlhafer, and Tracy Alford.
Dick was an exceptionally devoted husband and father. He was an avid sports fan and dedicated Bronco supporter, much to the dismay of his family who are Bear and Packer fans. He worked tirelessly to aid and support veterans of the country that he loved with all his heart. He was a shining example of patriotism. He has touched the lives of innumerable people and will be truly missed. He made the world a brighter place.
