Rita Lynne Friberg

March 11, 1949October 18, 2019

Rita Lynne Hogsett Friberg Friberg, Rita Lynne Hogsett, age 70, passed away on Oct 18, 2019 in Pueblo, CO. Born in Lafayette, IN on March 11, 1949 to Duane Hogsett and Linda (Cassini) Hogsett, she grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Bishop Kelley High in Tulsa. She subsequently earned degrees in Home Economics from Purdue University and Textiles and Fashion Merchandising from Colorado State University. Rita taught at Pueblo Community College for almost twenty years, where she loved interacting with her students as well as promoting small business ventures. Prior to moving to Pueblo and joining PCC, she owned a retail business called the “Colorado Peddler” which sold items made in Colorado. Rita was preceded in death by her father, Duane, her mother, Linda, and her sister, Marie Augustyniak Cassini. She is survived by her siblings: Carol and Ken Guertin of Tulsa, Alice Hogsett-Carter and Allen Carter of Benton, AR, Gail and Steve Peterson of Iola, TX, Gary and Annie Hogsett of Independence, KS, Joe and Marcia Hogsett of Oklahoma City, OK, John and Joann Hogsett of Edmond, OK, and David and Stacy Hogsett of Auburn, CA. Rita, who took great joy in her many nieces, nephews and friends, was quick to laugh and lend a hand. She was a life-long volunteer and mentor, active in Girl Scouts, SCORE and other non-profits. Rita loved living in Colorado and always had a project planned or underway. She loved quilting, weaving, sewing, reading, traveling, shopping and time with friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Rita’s friends and family will celebrate her life on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm (come and go) in the Barbara Fortino Conf Room in the Student Center at PCC. An event will also be held in Oklahoma at a later date. Memorials in Rita’s name can be directed to the PCC Foundation or any Girl Scouts organization.

I worked with Rita for years at PCC. We taught several courses together, and served on many boards together. She was a delightful fun person. I just thought of her last week, and then I hear she passed away. It must have been her sweet spirit telling me goodbye. I learned a lot from her and she will always have a special place in my heart. Fly away gentle soul, you will be remembered.

A very dear friend too soon gone. Rita, I will miss you every day. Our Sunday walks were treasures that I had hoped would never end. You will be forever a treasured friend dearly missed. My condolences to your family that you loved so much. I have enjoyed getting to know them through the stories that you would tell me while we walked or talked. I never imagined I would be saying goodbye. Safe travels dearest. I will look for you one day when I complete my journey. God love you. Rest in peace.

Rita lived next door to me for several years and I will miss her very much. She was very supportive to me after my husband died.
I enjoyed going to the Hen House for dinner with her.

Rita was a dedicated mentor, instructor, and advocate for those wanting the dream of entrepreneurship or business ownership. She put her sweat equity into those dreams for more than 30 years.

I only had one year with Rita while we served on the Pueblo SCORE chapter, but I loved that time with her.

Aunt Rita: I'll never forget our business strategy conversations--did you ever love a business plan--or your teaching me how to create financial projections in a way that was much better than I ever learned in school. I'll also never forget that beautiful mountain quilt in shades of the sunrise; it's a prominent feature in my childhood memories. Love and miss you and wish I could be there to say goodbye and hear all the stories from the friends you treasured.

Thank you, Pueblo, for being part of Rita's family.

My condolences to the Hogsett clan and all who knew and loved Rita. I knew her relentless positivity buoyed many. <3
