Roland Herrera peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on July 1, 2026, at the age of 76.
Roland was born on December 29, 1949 in Alamosa, CO to Bernie and Olivia Herrera. Throughout life on this side, he was known for his love for family and his adventurous spirit. Although always a believer, Roland submitted to the Holy Spirit about 5 years ago. This encounter with Jesus noticeably changed him and softened his heart. As he sought the Lord’s Will for his life, he loved more deeply and often shared both the wisdom he had gained through life's experiences and the wisdom he found in God's Word. Roland found strength and purpose in faith, trusting God's promises and sharing Christ's love to others. He was a generous man who loved his family fiercely.
Roland was a beloved husband, father, Papa, brother and friend. His humor, candor and pride in his heritage were unmatched, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and traveling and telling tall tales from the “good ‘ol days”. He proudly served in the United States Army and was unapologetically patriotic.
Roland held earthly possessions loosely, believing that people were always more important than things. That legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren as they continue to prioritize the “finer things in life” faith, family, and relationships. He loved feeding people, delighted in giving thoughtful gifts, was our baseball expert and was a gifted woodworker. Many family members and friends will cherish the handmade treasures he created with his own hands.
Though our hearts ache and his absence leaves a great void, we trust in the Lord's perfect timing. Roland and his bride of 20 years had just completed a memorable road trip to visit family, creating precious memories along the way. Just days before the Lord called him Home, he enjoyed a long conversation with his only son, sharing ideas about remodeling and, as always, passing along words of wisdom. Three days before his passing, his only daughter and her entire family spent precious time with him. Those final moments together have become treasured gifts.
Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Alicia; his daughter and son-in-love, Lisa and Duane; his son, Miguel; his grandchildren, Jacob, Isaiah, Olivia, Caleb, and Isabella; his brothers, Noel and Gene; bonus daughters JoAnne and Leah; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were “familia” to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Olivia Herrera; his brothers, Zeke, Bob, Manuel, and Wally; and his sister Libby.
Although we grieve because we would have liked more time with our Patriarch, we do not grieve without hope. Jesus conquered death, and Roland never feared dying because of Christ's finished work on the Cross. He is now at perfect Rest; Home with his Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and forever in the presence of the Father.
“So then, being always filled with good courage and confident hope, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— for we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]— we are of good courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 AMP
A memorial/celebration of life will be held on July 28 at Noon at Amazing Grace Fellowship 142 S Stardust Dr, Pueblo West, CO 81007.
The family invites all who knew and loved Roland to join them in celebrating what Jesus has done; a life marked by generosity, laughter, and unwavering love for family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
