

Ruth Winifred Smith McKay was born on August 22, 1921. She passed to be with our Lord on August 7, 2014. She was the eldest of 4 children born to Leo & Norine Smith in Burnett, WI where she grew up and graduated from high school. She married Wayne R. McKay on December 25, 1941. They had seven children. Ruth was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. They raised their children living in Columbus, WI for approximately 24 yrs. They moved to Pueblo West, CO in 1971 and lived here until 2000, when they moved to Hay Springs, NE. They returned to Pueblo West, CO in 2009. Ruth was a member of the Pueblo West Ladies Auxiliary until they moved to Hay Springs, NE at which time she transferred her membership to the VFW Post in Hay Springs, NE. Ruth loved singing and had the most beautiful voice. She loved square dancing when they were in WI., and loved fishing. She loved the outdoors and had a great passion for horses. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, her brother Richard and sister Mary, son Douglas, granddaughter Josie Moll and a step-granddaughter Brandi Peterson. She is survived by her sister Margie (Randell) Shenton, sister-in-law Ethel Smith, children Ruth Ann Tyson, Gwendolyn (Donald) Widhalm, Richard (Donna) McKay, Robert (Dianna) McKay, Gloyd (Patricia) McKay, and Susan McKay; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. At Ruth's request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held on August 22, 2014 (her 93rd birthday) at 11:00am at Majestic Baptist Church in Pueblo West. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth's Honor may be sent to Sangre de Cristo Hospice & Palliative Care at 1207 Pueblo Blvd. Way, Pueblo, CO 81005
