

Sharla Markus, 75, passed away March 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Lash, and husband of 51 years, Richard Markus. She is survived by her son, John Markus; daughter, Alesha (Benjamin) Reed; grandchildren, William and Michael Reed; and brother, Tom (Betsy Breckinridge) Lash. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Sharla attended South High School, received her bachelor’s from Southern Colorado State College, and got her master’s degree from Adams State University. She was a teacher and school counselor for 30 years with Pueblo School District 60, helping thousands of children. She loved music being a member of the chancel and chime choir at her church and volunteered with the Crazy Faith Ministry. She loved fireworks and the 4th of July. She was an avid Rockies and Broncos fan and never went anywhere without a book. Being a grandmother was one of the most rewarding parts of her life. She was beloved by her family, friends, and colleagues and will be greatly missed. The celebration of Sharla’s life will be held at 10:30am, Friday, March 15th at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pueblo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
