Simon Aguirre, age 91, of La Veta, Colorado passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday June 4, 2018. Simon was born February 18, 1927 in Farisita, Colorado to Prudencia and Evaristo Aguirre. Simon is preceded in death by both of his parents, brothers, sisters, and family members.
Simon married Bernice Valdez in 1948 and together their raised five children, working as a foreman/lineman for San Isabel Electric Association, ranching, volunteering at the local museum, and faithfully serving the community church to which he belonged. Simon is survived by his loving wife, Bernice; his loving and dedicated children, Christine (Jack) Healy, Edward (Geri) Aguirre, Stephen (Marissa) Aguirre, Nancie Laree, and Amy (David) Dudney. Survivors include Nathan Aguirre, Mark (Jessie) Dudney, Daniel Dudney, Jason and Matthew Aguirre, Alisa (Trevor) Levandoski, Brian Henniger, Rowan and Duncan Levandoski, Kyrah, Matea, Tyler and Landon Aguirre, numerous nieces and extended family.
Viewing will be held at St. Mary's Church, Walsenburg, CO on Sat. June 9, 2018 09:00 AM followed by Catholic Mass at 10 AM. Graveside service will follow at the Farisita Cemetery, Farisita, CO. The Aguirre family reception will be held at the La Veta Community Center, 131 E. Ryus Ave., La Veta, CO at 1:00 PM.
