

Sylvia Marcovecchio Greco, 98, born October 5, 1912 on Goat Hill passed away January 20, 2011. She is survived by daughter, Shirley Delahoyde; sister, Sadie Tishma; grandchildren, Terri (Greg) Hellem, Gina (Kevin) Knaack, Mike (Suzanne) Greco, Dean Frankmore; great-grandchildren, Gregory and Michael Hellem, Sarah and David Bustamento, Kevin and Max Greco, Dominic Frankmore; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved dog, Jake. She was preceded in death by John, her loving husband of 71 years; son, Retired Lt Col Joseph Greco; parents, Francesca and Michele Marcovecchio; twin sister, Esther Sanders; sisters, Jane Pullara, Mildred Potestio, Rose Pullaro, Nell Yeagley, Leona Vernon; brother, Ralph; granddaughter, Susan Greco; daughter-in-law, Wilma Greco and son-in-law, Tom Delahoyde. Sylvia and John owned and operated Coors Tavern (home of the original slopper) and Johnnies Liquor Store for 48 years and worked side by side until retirement in 1983. Sylvia and John did extensive traveling with various organizations: Liquor Dealers Association, Footprinters, TPA, Jaycees and Sertoma Club. Sylvia was president of LaSertoma, worked for March of Dimes, sold war bonds during WWII, Gray Lady at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital for 30 years, Girl Scout Leader and active in PTA. She enjoyed storytelling, attending Goat Hill Luncheons and Reunions, baking delicious Italian cookies and showing pictures of her family. She hosted many celebrations at her house for family and friends; weddings, birthdays, graduations, Halloween, Christmas, 4th of July and poker parties. Her favorite titles were ‘Nanny’ and ‘The Slopper Lady.’ She will be greatly missed by family and friends. We love you and miss you, Nanny. The family would like to thank Dr. Sloan and the staff at Joni Fair Hospice House for their kindness and care for Sylvia. In lieu of flowers and food, donations can be made to the Pueblo Lore, Sangre de Cristo Hospice or the charity of the giver’s choice.
