95 years young, and surrounded by his family in Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully from this life to enter heaven on July 22, 2025. Born in Maxwell, New Mexico, he was the son of Francisco Portillos and Marcita Grine. He married his beloved wife, Priscilla, on October 5, 1950, and together they raised three children. He is also survived by his sister Theresa Lucero, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ted worked for the CF&I and was a talented blast furnace worker for 38 years. Known for his sharp wit, he was a champion checker player to his fellow workers and unbeatable. Outside of work, he loved spending countless hours in nature, hunting, fishing and boating, and listening to his CDs, tapes, and the radio, sharing his music with everyone he knew.
Always putting the needs of others before his own, his unwavering kindness and storytelling were legendary at the Eagles Club where he was a passionate and dedicated member for 40 years. He could always make his family, and friends laugh with his infectious laughter and tales from his past.
Above all, Ted’s greatest joy was his family and pet dog Gabriel; he cherished spending time with his children, Darlene/Kevin, Frank/Kara and Sheri, and grandchildren, Kevin/Niki, Sean/Sonny, Troy/Denise, Michael/Michelle, Karey/Angie, Travis/Carleah, and Julie, and his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jack, Joey, Avery, Annabelle, Kayden, Addison, Caroline, Kael, Kash, Miel and Braxton. He will forever be remembered for his supportive words, his humor, and his good nature.
A celebration of Ted’s life will be held in his honor on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #145, 1615 S. Prairie Ave., #2310, Pueblo, CO 81005.
