Tobias Enrique Manzanares, 85, went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2013. He was born on August 12, 1927 in Fort Garland, CO. Preceded in death by his parents, Juan Luis Manzanares and Elvira Manzanares; sisters, Cordelia LaBlanc and Erma Minkler. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Rose M. Manzanares; children, Dorothy L. (Eric) Manzanares-Morgan, Tobias F. (Ilia) Manzanares, Sue Cox, Judy Manzanares, Betty Cunningham, Gloria (Larry) Baldonado; step children Ronnie Sanchez, Ray Sanchez and Donna (Dan) Starck; grandchildren, Tim (Davida) Manzanares, John Manzanares, Orion Morgan, Gavin Morgan, Jennifer Manzanares; numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Gloria R. Gonzales. Also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War, and retired from the Pueblo Army Depot in 1976; while working at the Pueblo Army Depot he received Decoration for Meritorious Civilian Service for his humanitarian effort in administering first aid to fellow employees whose lives were endangered and before harm had occurred. Tobias was a member of the DAV, VFW, and VA. After retirement he enjoyed being a stay at home dad to his twins Toby and Dorothy, working in the yard, building, gardening, raising chickens and goats. He was very mechanical often fixing tractors, mowers, etc. for neighbors as well as maintaining his own equipment. Once the twins were old enough and in school, he worked as a maintenance man for then Bonnymede Apartments and also built up his own lawn mowing service, where he and his son Toby worked together mowing lawns for several years. Later in life he loved spending time spoiling his grandchildren or chatting with a neighbor in the evening. The grandchildren would often be found out doors with their Pampo, and if we didn’t stop by for a couple days he would call wondering when they were coming over next. He loved nothing more than to be outside in the fresh air and always had to be doing something. He was a restless spirit who could not seem to rest and was always on the move. Special thanks to family friends, Larry Roney, Pam Ginther and to the Staff at Westwind Campus of Care, especially Nurses Ginger, Mariah, Kacey, Kollette, Darren and Susan; CNA’s Diana, Stephanie and countless others whose names I did not get to know; and Sangre De Cristo Hospice. I thank you all for your kind and endearing care of my dad these last three months, I could not have asked for more. Viewing 3-4 p.m., Sunday, August 4, 2013.
