Tony Hernez, born March 29, 1925, passed away August 8, 2021. At the age of 96, we lost our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Tony Hernez “Papa” to Covid-19. He was born in Aguilar, Colorado, was raised in Avondale, and lived out the end of his life in Colorado Springs.
Papa joined the Marines during WWII and later transitioned to civil service as an ammunition specialist for the Department of the Army, serving his country for a total of forty-four years. This gave him and his family the opportunity to travel the world, inspiring his children and grandchildren to do the same.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie L. Hernez (Dejoy) and son Joe Blatnik. He is survived by his children; Gina Broome (Jim), Rita Hernandez, Chris Hernez (Doreen), Ray Blatnik (Maggie), his grandchildren; Rachel, Hannah, Madison, Mckenzie, Angelique, Ryan, Sarah, and his six great-grandchildren.
We will miss sharing family time, enjoying good food, red wine, and especially listening to his stories over happy hour. You will be missed, Papa. We Love you.
End of Story.
Funeral Mass, 1:30, Tuesday, August 24 at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pueblo, CO. Burial, Imperial Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Pueblo, CO.
