

Verda Kay Fingado Gibson, 85, born to the union of Francis Henry Fingado and Donna Dola Galbraith on May 17, 1927 in Siebert, CO and passed away on March 9, 2013. Verda married Howard Glen Gibson on August 19, 1945 in Taos, New Mexico. They were proud parents of Frances (Lee) Johnson, Patricia Niccoli, Howard Brian Gibson (deceased), Sheli (Mark) Mayo and Erik Gibson. She was a wonderful grandmother to 18 grandchildren 4 of which she helped raise. She leaves 31 great-grandchildren and counting as well as a brother, Henry Fingado of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Verda was a unique and wonderful lady who knew no strangers. She touched many lives in an uplifting and positive way. She was very involved in the community and surrounding area. She was a dedicated member of the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and recruited many new members. Not only did she start the annual Silver Queen Contest for the Colorado State Fair, but she also started the Arkansas Valley Silver Queen/King Contest and the Wheelchair Young Man/Women of the Year Contest. She was a Board Member of the Salvation Army, the Arkansas Valley Fair, the Postal Commemorative Society and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. She loved music and played the organ for her church and for many funerals in the area. Verda helped with the PTA and wrote poetry. She has a poem in the National Library of Poetry. Special thanks to the staff at Sangre de Cristo Hospice during the last days of her illness. Viewing 1 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013 followed by a Funeral Service to honor her will be 2 p.m., both held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 4720 Surfwood.
