

Vernon Dewain Colvin, passed away December 22, 2016 with his family at his side. He was born March 16, 1957 to parents Ervin Dewain and Connie (Bass) Colvin in St. Joseph, Missouri, the closest hospital to his hometown of Albany. He is preceded in death by his brother Bobby Dale Colvin and his father. Survived by the love of his life, Nancy, to whom he was married 36 years. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Bobby & Mandy Colvin, Kenny & Rhianna Colvin, Amy & Nick Lile. Vern had six grandchildren who he adored and loved being their Papa; Dominic, Mallory, Elliott, Cara, Blake & Anya. Vern is also survived by his mother Connie Stephens, sisters Maggie (Brian) Miller, Robin (Scott) French, in-laws whom he loved as his own Fredrick Thomas, Janet (Danny) Boyd, Greg (Martha) Thomas, Ross (Marie) Thomas, Tim (Nancy) Thomas, Darla (Gary) Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vern loved spending time with his family, especially watching them play sports and travelling anywhere (Italy was his favorite). He worked as a mechanic, riverboat deckhand, railroad brakeman, and delivery driver before starting his career at the Steel Mill, where he worked for 30 years. The majority of his time was spent as a safety supervisor. He took his job seriously and was proud of his part in keeping his coworkers safe. He was kind to everyone, always had a smile, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He could never go anywhere without seeing someone he knew. He loved muscle cars and dreamed of spending his retirement driving Route 66 in his Chevelle. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held, Wednesday December 28th from 3-6pm at TG McCarthy Funeral Home with Funeral Mass at St Joseph’s Catholic Church on Thursday December 29th at 11am.
