It has been said that a Preacher preaches her/his best sermon by raising a Christian family. We believe that, but we also believe that in our case, a preacher preaches her/his best sermon when raised in a Christian Family. If you follow that logic, our precious mother has always been a preacher. Mother was born on April 30, 1935 to Owen Johnson and Winnie Lee Walker Hobbs. It was the height of the Great Depression and even though we didn't know it yet, as a country, we were headed toward WWII. We grew up hearing stories about uncle Allen and aunt Mamie, aunt Sally Lou and uncle Massey, who worked for DuPont. Before the war, DuPont made ladies' lingerie. After war was declared, they make parachutes for WWI. Our cousin, Stanley Ross packed those parachutes and solders brought him whiskey in gorgeous bottles to thank him. The history of our family is closely bound to the history of our Country. Mother kept and honored the history and Christian values of her family all of her life and passed them on to her children and everyone she ever met.
Her senior yearbook promised her heart to "her farm boy" from Cedar Grove. She was a proud member of the Jones High Tigers basketball team. Her favorite colors were the school's colors-yellow and gold. She married our father, Thomas Henry Everly, on October 25, 1953 at the parsonage of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
She cooked delicious brownies, cakes, and pinto beans to feed everyone at the Lynnville United Methodist Church, Gabriel, and anyone who visited us or visited any member of her family. She loved flowers: buttercups, iris, and day lilies were among her favorites. She loved to tend to the flowers at Lynnville UMC and the parsonage. She worked hard every day of her life to honor our Lord. She made cloth books to send to children in Costa Rica. Her favorite was a book of Prayers. She loved children; she could never resist stopping to say hello to a baby or a child.
She leaves behind a precious family that will miss her terribly. Her children- Linda and Frank Frost of Cumberland City, Jo Everly and Ed Everly, both of Lynnville, Steve and Martha Everly of Moulton, AL, and Sue Townsend of Lynnville, her grandchildren-Carrie and Christopher Frost, Angie Vines, Amy and Brandon Oliver, and Bailey and Jonah Townsend, her great grandchildren-Brandyn Frost, Dori Wallace, Kayla and Tevin Terrell, Andrew Vines, and Emma and John Oliver. We are anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great-great grandchild-Kayla and Tevin are the proud soon to be parents.
