My father was a wonderful man. He served his country, loved his family, and was a friend to animals. His love of learning influenced me to attend college and pursue an academic career. Each time he said he was proud of me, my heart swelled and I worked harder. His lessons in perseverance, self-reliance, and independence served me well. I love my Dad with all my heart and he will be greatly missed. I like to picture him on the beach in the Outer Banks with my mom, sitting in chairs and gazing at the surf. They are together at last.
