Joseph C. Long, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2018. He passed away at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Pulaski, TN, after a battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by parents, James T. and Martha Ethel Vanhoozer Long; sisters, Thelma L. Cron, Edith Gelene Long and Frances L. Hill.
He is survived by her 4 brothers, Thomas E. Long of Pulaski, TN, J. B. Long and Emily of Columbia, TN, Robert D. Long and Pat of Nashville, TN and Van K Long and Maylene of Punta Gorda, FL; nieces and nephew. Joe was born on March 16, 1922 in Elkmont Springs, TN and he lived in Giles County his entire life. He served in the United States Army during World War II (1944-1946) in the EAME Theater and fought in battles in Rhineland and Central Europe. After his time in the service, he returned to Giles County and worked as a dairy farmer until his retirement. Joe was a lifelong United Methodist and was an active member of Elkton United Methodist Church. He served many years as Elkton UMC’s representative to the United Methodist Tennessee Annual Conference. He was also an active member of the Giles County United Methodist Laity Club and served as President 1990-91. In his later years he was a resident at the Keestone Hewitt House. The family would like to thank the staff at Keestone Hewitt House, Compassus Hospice and Meadowbrook Nursing Home Pulaski for their kind and compassionate care.
The Funeral will be at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. with Visitation 1 hour prior to the Funeral. Burial will be at Elkton Cemetery.
