Shirley was born March 17, 1929 in the Scotts Hill Community to the late Milas M. and Stella Mae Rutherford Rochelle. She was a homemaker and preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilburn C. Townsend, Sr., daughter Louise Davis, and brother, James Howard Rochelle.
Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Wednesday December 22, 2021 at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home with Funeral to follow at 2pm. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Cemetery Fund.
Survivors include her son Wilburn Townsend, Jr. and wife Mary of Salem, daughter Elizabeth Griffin and husband Phillip of Athens, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
