Cheryl Vollmar, 60, passed away on September 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on April 4, 1966, in Baltimore, Maryland, Cheryl was the beloved daughter of Jack and Patricia Sheckells.
Cheryl dedicated much of her life to education and to making a difference in the lives of others. She graduated from the University of South Florida in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and later continued her education, earning a Master’s degree in Education. She devoted more than 25 years to Charlotte County Public Schools before retiring from a career that touched the lives of countless students, families, and colleagues.
Retirement, however, did not slow Cheryl down. She began a new chapter working for Apple, where her outgoing personality and natural ability to connect with people helped her excel in sales. Cheryl had a remarkable way of making friends wherever she went. She genuinely enjoyed people, and her warmth, kindness, and accepting nature made others feel comfortable and valued.
Outside of work, Cheryl found her greatest happiness in the simple things she loved most: the beach, kayaking, traveling, relaxing by the pool, and, above all, spending time with her family and friends. She loved being near the water and treasured opportunities to make memories with the people she loved.
Cheryl was giving, supportive, and never judgmental. She had a way of making those around her feel accepted for exactly who they were. To her family, she was so much more than a mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother; she was a source of encouragement, comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she gave so freely will remain with her family and friends forever.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Sheckells.
She is survived by her loving parents, Jack and Patricia Sheckells; her children, Adrienne Baker (Andy), Lindsay Owada (Monty), and Garrett Vollmar; her beloved grandchildren, Alyssa, Ayden, Austin, Ahmani, Tariq, and Imran; her sisters, Trish Thompson (David) and Candi Solis (Mauricio); her step-sisters, Barbie Hess and Frannie Nuckles; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
A Celebration of Life honoring Cheryl will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Cheryl’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, honoring her caring and giving spirit.
Cheryl’s life will be remembered not simply by the years she lived, but by the people she loved, the lives she touched, and the memories she leaves behind. Her family will carry her love with them always.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
