With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Atter on February 20, 2024. Born on May 27, 1945, Don lived a remarkable life filled with love, devotion, and unforgettable memories. His departure is a great loss, yet his legacy continues in those he has left behind.
A veteran of the US Navy, Don was a man of integrity, beloved by all who had the privilege to know him. His compassion, humor, and generosity were as enduring as his love for his family, who remained at the forefront of his life even through his final days. His kind spirit and wisdom carried family and friends along the way, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Karen Atter. Their shared love story was one of mutual understanding, unwavering support, and boundless love for nearly 60 years. Karen's strength and grace continue to inspire those around her as she embodies the family values that Don holds dear.
He is also survived by his dedicated daughter, Christina Maday, who carries her father's love and wisdom into her own family. Christina's husband, Mark, fondly remembers Donald as a respected father-in-law and friend. The bond they shared was unbreakable and will continue to be cherished.
Donald's memory will also be lovingly remembered by his cherished granddaughters, Sabrina Maday and Clare Cordes (Dylan), and grand-animals Minnie, Nebie, Bodie, and Benelli. His teachings and zest for life will play an invaluable role in molding their futures. Don's legacy will live on in their hearts and actions as they uphold the family values, he instilled in them.
In place of flowers, and to honor Don’s battle with cancer, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in Don’s name. His illness has highlighted the importance of further research and support in this field. We hope that these donations can contribute towards a future where no other family will endure the pain of losing a loved one to this dreadful disease.
We mourn the loss of a great man but celebrate the life Don lived. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. His story is not over, for he continues to live on in the hearts of all he touched.
