GEORGE K. ZIMMERMAN, SR, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died October 1, 2020. George was born November 1, 1936 of Roland Zimmerman and Catherine Dailey of Baltimore, Maryland. George attended Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School, Baltimore Maryland, and worked for Carr Lowery Glass Company from 1955 to 1975. During his career as a glass blower, he was regularly active in the Glass Blower’s Union. His second career was owner-operator of Zimmerman Auto Parts in Punta Gorda, Florida from 1977 until his retirement in 1999. George is remembered as being a devoted husband, father, and Pop-Pop. He had a silly sense of humor, teasing and joking with his family as the family “Clown” and is remembered for making his goofy faces. He was an avid card player of the family traditional card game “shanghai” and loved to fix and create things. In retirement he enjoyed spending time in his workshop creating furniture and swings for family and friends, watching the Ellen Show and Nascar racing in his favorite chair where he took his daily naps. He also loved to cook breakfast for himself and others if they showed up.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Zimmerman, and he was a devoted father to his 3 children; Daughter, Jean Joslin (husband Harry) of Harbor Heights, Florida; Son, George K. Zimmerman, JR (wife Lori) of Sparta, Tennessee, and daughter, Lisa Taylor (husband Clarence) of Jamestown, North Carolina. He was a doting Pop-Pop to his six grandchildren; Mellissa Weist (husband Tommy) of Baltimore, Maryland; Jamie Joslin of Punta Gorda, Florida; Samantha Zimmerman of Port Charlotte, Florida; George K. Zimmerman III of Vero Beach, Florida; Kaitlyn Barnes of Newcastle, Oklahoma; and Kaleb Barnes of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was also Pop-Pop to his seven Great-Grandchildren; Jessica, Jacob, Megan, David, Austin, Serenity, and Nora and one Great-Great Grandchild, Sophia.
