GEORGE K. ZIMMERMAN, SR, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died October 1, 2020. George was born November 1, 1936 of Roland Zimmerman and Catherine Dailey of Baltimore, Maryland. George attended Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School, Baltimore Maryland, and worked for Carr Lowery Glass Company from 1955 to 1975. During his career as a glass blower, he was regularly active in the Glass Blower’s Union. His second career was owner-operator of Zimmerman Auto Parts in Punta Gorda, Florida from 1977 until his retirement in 1999. George is remembered as being a devoted husband, father, and Pop-Pop. He had a silly sense of humor, teasing and joking with his family as the family “Clown” and is remembered for making his goofy faces. He was an avid card player of the family traditional card game “shanghai” and loved to fix and create things. In retirement he enjoyed spending time in his workshop creating furniture and swings for family and friends, watching the Ellen Show and Nascar racing in his favorite chair where he took his daily naps. He also loved to cook breakfast for himself and others if they showed up.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Zimmerman, and he was a devoted father to his 3 children; Daughter, Jean Joslin (husband Harry) of Harbor Heights, Florida; Son, George K. Zimmerman, JR (wife Lori) of Sparta, Tennessee, and daughter, Lisa Taylor (husband Clarence) of Jamestown, North Carolina. He was a doting Pop-Pop to his six grandchildren; Mellissa Weist (husband Tommy) of Baltimore, Maryland; Jamie Joslin of Punta Gorda, Florida; Samantha Zimmerman of Port Charlotte, Florida; George K. Zimmerman III of Vero Beach, Florida; Kaitlyn Barnes of Newcastle, Oklahoma; and Kaleb Barnes of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was also Pop-Pop to his seven Great-Grandchildren; Jessica, Jacob, Megan, David, Austin, Serenity, and Nora and one Great-Great Grandchild, Sophia.

Have known George for many years and his service to the Charlotte County Community when I worked at K-Mart in Charlotte Harbor and beyond. Mary, you were in the office and I have fond memories of both you and George. A wonderful human
being and as you say a "clown." Wishing you peace in the coming
days as you treasure 64 years of marriage and a great family legacy.

I used to own Angelos Pizza inPG. We could be busy or we could be slow and every day George used to come in. You known him as George I knew him as G. EE when he came into the bar in the back are used to order a little tree which meant he wanted a bush beer. He took me to the swamp many times and on his airboat I played darts with them many many nights sometimes until the sun came up. I will never forget him he taught me a lot. G was a great guy

I miss you so much, I wish you were still here, but I bet you are up there playing cards right now with Grandpop, Grandmom, Nan and Aunt Shirley. I loved spending summers with you and Mommom. You loved everyone so much and I just wish we had more time with you. I know I will see you again one day. Love you always!!

In my short time knowing George Sr, it was very apparent that he was a devoted husband and family man. From holiday gatherings to afternoons filled with card games, George Sr loved spending time with family.
With his great sense of humor and honory nature, I am sure that his memories will be very cherished among his family and friends.

With my deepest condolences,

Cory
