Holly Robin (Scott) Gothner, 60, of Nokomis, passed away Wednesday July 17th, 2019 after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Venice and was a 1976 graduate of Venice High School.
She worked at the Sarasota Sheriff's Office, working as a dispatcher from 1977-1981, before becoming one of the few female road deputies at the agency in 1981. She served as a deputy until 1988, until complications from an on-duty injury forced her to return to the dispatch center, where she remained until retiring in 2006.
Holly enjoyed watching TV, particularly nature shows and cartoons. She was a religious viewer of "SpongeBob SquarePants."
She also enjoyed reading, shopping, going to the casino, and watching her favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
She loved animals, particularly her beloved black cat, Pinky.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Dick; her son Chris, of Des Moines, Iowa; her brothers, Berry, of Port Charlotte and Larry of Brooksville and a number of nieces and nephews. Holly is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Hollis R. "Scotty" Scott, Jr. and sisters Melanie P. and Christine M. Scott.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00pm, Saturday July 27, 2019 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 1935 S Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL 34293.
