

Homer Ray Russell, Sr, 71, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away Tuesday morning May 21, 2019 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was born on February 7, 1948 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Homer was the son of James and Cynthia Russell and had 14 siblings. He and his family relocated from Kentucky to Punta Gorda, Florida when he was 11 years old.
He started his career in the electrical business becoming an electrician, but also had a few years of being a foreman for a local sod company, Parker Sod.
Homer married his first wife, Frances (Nottingham) and had three children, Homer Jr, Allen and Tonya. He later married his current wife, Dianne and gained two step-daughters, Kim and Missy. Homer’s favorite place to be was outdoors. He could usually be found sitting outside watching TV in the garage or tending to his gardens. He was only a phone call away from anyone who needed his help in any way.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Russell, two sons, Homer (Melissa) Russell and Allen Russell; his daughter, Tonya (Trevor) Baker; two step-daughters, Kim Broach and Melissa (Jeff) Hawkshead; 9 grandchildren, Zachary Russell, Trey Russell, Taylor (Nelson) Ochoa, Tiffany Russell, Hunter Russell, Trevor (Melyssa) Baker Jr, Jordan Baker, Aeron Baker and Alena Hawkshead; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Wheeler, brothers, David Russell, Johnny Russell, Larry Russell and Robert Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents James A. Garfield and Cynthia Jane Russell, brothers, Paul Russell, James E. Russell, sisters, Faye Smith, Fletta Jackson, Martha Ewers, Pareleah Warren, Dorothy Tyner and Beth Phillips, as well as his grandson, Shane Russell. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am, Monday May 27, 2019 at the Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda.
