

Joan C. Saluto passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 88. She was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love and compassion. Born in Queens, NY on March 8, 1937 she was the daughter to the late Howard and Sadie Wood. When she was young her family moved to Freehold NY where she graduated from High School. Joan became an RN at Vassar Brothers School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie NY. Her career started with the “OB” floor at North Shore Hospital, Manhassett NY. She loved her job and continued with a nursing career most of her working life.
On September 13, 1959 she married the love of her life Leonard (Leo) Saluto at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Great Neck, NY. They moved to Mahopac NY to raise their family, lived there for 40 years prior to moving to Punta Gorda Florida. They were members of St. John’s Catholic Church in Mahopac and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by her. She is survived by her loving Husband Leonard of 65 years, her children Ken Saluto, John Saluto (Carolyn), Lori Greenstone (Mark), Robert (Christine). Joan’s legacy continues through her cherished Grandchildren Anthony, Trevor (Alicia), Lauren, Angela (Steve), Cody and Samantha. She adored her Great Grandchildren Aubrey, Brooke and Skyler. It was the simple moments with her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren that she cherished most.
Her loving nature and selfless attitude left an indelible mark on her community, she will be remembered for her willingness to go above and beyond for others. She loved life and was always ready to have fun! She enjoyed playing the piano, trying new recipes, playing bridge and mahjong, cruising on Hudson on Sea Castle, going shopping, volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul.

A Memorial Mass will be offered Wednesday April 30 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda, Florida.
