Matt was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished family member, and loyal friend. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger; only friends he had not yet gotten to know. With a heart of gold, an infectious smile, and a sense of humor that could brighten any room, Matt had a remarkable gift for making people laugh and feel welcome.
Born on April 15, 1963, Matt attended Forest Hill Community High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. He went on to work as a heavy equipment operator, a profession he took great pride in throughout his life.
One of Matt’s greatest accomplishments was his journey of recovery. He would have celebrated six years of sobriety on June 22, 2026 and he became a proud and dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Through his own experiences, he inspired countless others facing addiction, offering guidance, encouragement, understanding, and hope. His commitment to helping others find their path to recovery became one of the most meaningful parts of his life and legacy.
Matt had a deep love for his family and friends and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Whether he was fishing, boating, caring for his plants, target shooting, riding his motorcycle, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. His laughter, stories, jokes, and larger-than-life personality will be remembered by all who knew him.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, William McClane; his mother, Audrey McClane; his brother, Edward McClane; his sister-in-law, Geri McClane; and his sister, Kathy Vaden.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta McClane; his children, Megan, Wesley (Bree), Brandie (Jason), Ronald Jr. (Stephanie), and Tabatha (Jason); and his treasured grandchildren, DJ, Sailor, Kaia, Kayla, Brayden, Hailee, Abigail, Hannalee, Zachary, and Ronald III (RJ).
He is also survived by his nephews, Darrell and Michael (Julie), and his niece, Erin, along with countless extended family members, friends, and members of the recovery community whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and unwavering support.
A celebration of Matt’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home; 635 E. Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, Florida 33950.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship and remembrance at 12:30 p.m. at Harbour Heights Pavilion ; 27420 Voyageur Drive, Punta Gorda, Florida 33983.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local Addiction Recovery Program in honor of Matt’s memory and in support of those continuing their journey of recovery. In addition, the family request any pictures you have with Matthew that you will share them via email: [email protected].
Though his presence will be deeply missed, Matt’s legacy of love, laughter, friendship, service, and sobriety will live on in the countless lives he touched. His family takes comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and watch over them until they meet again.
