

Peter W. Babbitt, 78, of Punta Gorda, FL, Tiverton, RI and Warren RI, passed away on May 26, 2025.
Born in Newport, RI on June 6,1946, Peter was a resident of Warren, RI until 1968. He was a member of the Warren High School Class of 1964. Peter held many leadership positions during his time at Warren High School. While he excelled in all his academic and athletic endeavors, football was always Peter's greatest love. He achieved All-State status, All-Division defensive and offensive tackle and was inducted into the Warren High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
In 1968, Peter graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Business Degree in Marketing and Management. While attending URI, he was a brother in the Phi Mu Delta fraternity, played football during his freshman year and was a member of the ROTC.
Peter retired from ARAmark (formally ARA Food Services) after more than thirty years as the Director for School Nutrition Services for the Southeastern New England Region
Peter's happiest moments were those spent in his boat on the Kickemuit River surrounded by family and friends as well as with his friends in the Blue Heron Pines community in FL. He was known as a loving husband and father and for his "Million Dollar Smile". Peter had an infectious laugh as well as a kind, generous spirit which will be a lasting legacy for all who knew and loved him.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Anne (Petersen) Babbitt of Tiverton, RI as well as his brothers Preston and Terry (Mary) Babbitt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Marie (Mulholland) Babbitt, his three daughters: Gerilyn (Timothy) Cahalan, Heather (Eric) Romanelli and Gretchen (Matthew Stuczynski) Babbitt, Five grandchildren: Duncan T. Cahalan (Jenna), Kasey Lynn Romanelli, Ivor B. Cahalan, Seamus B. Cahalan, and Daniel Rocco Romanelli. He is also survived by a sister, Carole Anne (David) Lehoullier.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on August 2, 2025 at 3pm at Colt State Park, Bristol, RI and on November 15, 2025 at 10AM, a memorial service will be held at Kays-Ponger and Uselton Funeral Home on 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL.
