

Shar was born in Evergreen Park, IL to Charles and Ann Olsen on January 19, 1937. She attended Mercy High School in Chicago, IL. She earned a teaching degree at Chicago Teachers College. She started her teaching career in Merrionette Park, IL, and then moved on to the Mahalia Jackson school in the Chicago Public School System for several years. With a master’s degree in special education, she was transferred to Richard Henry Lee school to teach children with learning disabilities. She continued her education at St. Xavier University and earned her certificate for Administration and Supervision and became the assistant principal at the Lee School. At the University of Illinois Chicago, she earned her certificate to teach deaf children. Shar had a love for learning and taught computer classes at Lee School.
Shar supported many charities, including the Mayo Clinic, Boy’s Town, and the Salvation Army. She was a volunteer at Little Company of Mary Hospital until she was transferred to Lee School which took more time at school, and she could no longer volunteer at the hospital. Shar was a Life member of the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago.
Shar is survived by her children, Michelle (Dan), James (Laura), David, and the late Debra. Grandchildren, Steven, DJ, Kristen (Ryan), Josh, Emily, and Grace. She has two nieces, Karen Ketterman (the late, Dennis), and the late Mary Kay McSheffrey (Jim). She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ann, and by her sister, Marilyn Holck.
Shar and her husband were Eucharistic Ministers at St. Linus Church in Oak Lawn, IL and at St. Steven’s Church in Tinley Pari, IL.
The burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL with her deceased husband John W. Brady.
