Doreen was born in Urmstan, England (United Kingdom), on December 28th, 1939 to Frederick Evans and Lydia Jewel Atkinson.
After two years of fighting COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)- Doreen peacefully went to rest. Our mother, our Nana- was set free on Wednesday September 15, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup Washington. Per her request, her ashes gracefully laid to rest amongst the Puget Sound waters.
To cherish her memories-Doreen is survived by her three children; Joseph Bradford, Jacqueline Wensdy and January Drene. Doreen came to us from the United Kingdom at the age of 17 years old and was employed as a nanny. She later married and had three children and moved with the family within the military over the course of 22 years. Residing in Tacoma Washington, she worked as an AT&T operator, enjoyed family celebrations and gardening. She was honored with the #1 yard of the year award for her “Red Roses”. She loved the ocean and the sound of the waves, all her animals, she through the best 4th
of July parties and invented a card game “Penny Pile” with her two Best Friends- Valerina Roblow and Cheryl Reed. Doreen was very loving, intelligent, artistic, and creative and always put her children first in which impacted many lives.
She will be missed, always remembered and in our hearts...
Poem -
I’m Free.
Don’t grieve for me, now I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with the time of sorrow,
My life’s been full, I savored much,
Good friend, good times,
A loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now, he set me free.
