

Elsie Schuler was born in Ferndale, Washington on September 30, 1922 to Anton and Regina Schorno. She was the 2nd oldest of 10 children. Her family lived in Whatcom County until 1932. They then moved to Edison, where they lived for 8 years and then to Mt. Vernon. She attended Edison grade school and graduated from Mt. Vernon High. She attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Bellingham, where she received her degree in nursing. Her first position was there as a surgical nurse for 9 months, until she joined the United States Army Nurse Corps. Receiving her basic training at Fort Lewis and then to Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco for 6 months, following with an overseas assignment in Seoul, Korea for 1 year at the 29th General Hospital. She was discharged from the Army as a 1st Lt. in 1947. Upon returning she worked for a physician in Bellingham for 3 years, until she married Frank Schuler at the Sacred Heart Church in LaConner on September 23, 1950. They had 3 daughters in the next 7 years, Elice, Louise and Jayne. They spent many years camping, spending time at their house at Mason Lake, two trips to Disneyland, Yosemite and many other outings. Frank and Elsie went to Switzerland twice, Hawaii three times, cruises to Panama Canal, Alaska, and the Caribbean.
Elsie was a member of the Swiss Ladies Society of which she held the Office, of Financial Secretary and Treasurer Trustee. She was a grandmother to 5 grandchildren, Danelle, Jeanna, Amy, Alison and Kyle. and 1 great granddaughter, Katie and a great grandson due in July.Elsie was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, caring sister and loving grandmother. She will be joining our beloved dad in heaven, dancing the Swiss polka. They will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. We love you and mom and dad!
