

Gwenyth Anne Fletcher, 80, died Nov. 5, 2016 following an nine-year struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Born in Tacoma, Gwen lived in Pendleton, OR and Bellingham where her father managed the JC Penney stores. She graduated from Bellingham High School, attended Willamette University and was graduated from Western Washington University. Gwen then embarked on a teaching career that included stops in Monroe, Centralia, Burlington and finally in Puyallup where she taught and was a principal and administrator for 20 years. In between the early teaching stints, she co-owned with her husband, Woody, weekly newspapers in Idaho, Buckley and Sumner. Outside of teaching, Gwen was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Puyallup where she was a Deacon, and served on the church session for years. She was also active in her AAUW chapter, Weight Watchers, a local book club and for 43 years met with friends for coffee at McDonalds. All of these groups provided her a vast circle of close friends. Throughout her life, Gwen enjoyed reading, drama, music, traveling and shopping at Nordstrom and Starbucks. But her family and faith were her life’s focus. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Woody Fletcher. Gwen is survived by two sons, Britt(Linda) Fletcher and their children Lauren, Savannah and Kai; Todd (Betsy)Fletcher and children Brynn (Conor) Mason and Molly; a daughter Janae Fletcher (Greg) Brown and her children, Forrest, Ian and Sawyer Almasi, and his sons Justin and Jared Brown. She is also survived by her sister Corinne Campbell of Redmond, WA.
