Marie was born to Ruth and Marion Hughes, the oldest of three children. She received a teaching certificate in 1941 from PLC and taught for several years in Kapowsin and McMillin, WA. She married Richard A. Hardtke on July 5th, 1946 and they had five children: Helen (John) Gardner, Richard C., Walter C. (Siggi), Marian (Jim) Corliss and Frederick E. She was active in Grange (where she was proud of her 60+ years of continuous membership), Eastern Star, and quilting until just a few years ago. Marie is survived by her five children, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 14 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Puyallup at 2:00 pm.
