Bob grew up in Tacoma, graduated from Bellarmine High School in 1950 where he played football. In 2004 he was inducted into the football hall of fame as Touchdown Time Champion being honored as one of the top players from the past 100 years in Tacoma. In 1951 he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. While in Korea he earned a 7th degree black belt in Judo. In 1953 he married Betty Jean Rauch and just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last August. In 1961 they moved to Puyallup to raise their three children.
He enjoyed giving to others especially children. Bob was Santa Clause for over 45 years giving joy to the under privileged and the ederly. He retired from Alaska Airlines and enjoyed his life traveling. They acquired a beach home where they spent much time with their children and grandchildren. His favorite place to go was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he continued his goodwill. The people gave him the name "the candy man" or "Santa Bob". He always had a smile and was a true friend to all. Bob enjoyed many things, fishing, camping, traveling and visiting with everyone.
Bob was a member with his wife Betty of Puerto Vallarta's Friendship Club where she helped with cleft palate surgeries and he entertained the children. Bob was a charter member of Pilgrim Lutheran. We ask in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the church in his name.
Bob has been husband, father, grandfather and great friend to many. He will be truly missed. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by the entire family.
