AMPARO ORTEGA LONGALONG
November 15, 1937 – October 10, 2026
With grateful hearts and faith in the promise of eternal life, we remember our beloved mother, Amparo Ortega Longalong, who passed away on October 10, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Cebu City, Philippines, to Joaquin Ortega and Calixta Yap, she traveled to New Orleans in the 1950s with her sister Carmen and graduated from Charity Hospital as an X-ray technician. She later married Dr. Benedicto Arce Longalong in New York City. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith and Filipino traditions, eventually settling in New York in 1984.
Our mother was a woman of strong will, deep faith, and remarkable creativity. She loved knitting, cooking, and taking on unexpected projects, from making things by hand to redecorating the house. Once she set her mind on something, she found a way to accomplish it. She was equally devoted to making our home a welcoming place for everyone.
Growing up, we never knew how many relatives or friends we would find gathered in our living room or staying overnight. There was always food to share, conversations to enjoy, and room for anyone who came through our doors. Above all, she made sure that our home was a house of prayer, where faith in God was part of everyday life.
Amparo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Benedicto Arce Longalong. She leaves behind her children, Linda (Julius), Lissa, and Rev. Patrick Longalong, her grandchildren, Julian, Jason, and Samantha, and many relatives and friends. We thank God for her life, the faith she passed on, and the love she shared so generously. Trusting in the promise of the Resurrection, we commend her into God's loving embrace.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
