

Antonine Xantus (nee Berthaud), was born on June 13, 1929 in Gonaives, Haiti to Berthomieux Berthaud And Odulcie Pinchinat. Her dad and newborn brother Jean, passed away when she was two years old. She was raised by both her mother an great aunt Catina Honore (Tante Cati).
As a young adult, Antonine taught sewing and embroidery in a Catholic school in Gonaives, and later in Port-au-Prince. In the early 1960s, she was sponsored by her aunt Benita Berthaud and immigrated to the United States. A few years later, she met and married her husband Gustave Xantus, whom she affectionately called "Guy". Together they raised their three children Chantal, Josianne and Patrick.
With their determination and strong work ethics, both Guy and Antonine opened their own business called Dove Hosiery Co. in Manhattan. They successfully ran the store until eventually retiring in their sixties.
Antonine had a strong faith and devotion to God. She believed in the power of prayer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family and friends meant everything to her. She loved to stay home and enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and drawing.
Antonine died peacefully on October 21, 2025 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family. She was 96 years old. She was predeceased in death by her husband Gustave Xantus, her siblings Rostand Berthaud (brother), Maria Candella Berthaud (sister, Tante Mercie), brothers-in-law Rene Adolphe, Jacques Xantus and Maude Adolphe (sister-in-law).
She is survived by her children Patrick Xantus (son), Lisa Xantus (daughter-in-law), Josianne Dieudonne (daughter), Lionel Dieudonne (son-in-law), Chantal Byron (bonus daughter), Frantz Byron (son-in-law), grandchildren Julien Xantus, Christian Xantus, Alex Dieudonne, Gabrielle Dieudonne and Gabriel Xantus. Her brothers-in-law Eddy Xantus and Frantz Xantus, sister-in-law Mireille Xantus. She also leaves behind many nephews, nieces and godchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose hearts she has touched.
We can all be comforted in knowing that Antonine lived a full life with many blessings.

A visitation will be held on November 1, 2025, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at R. Stutzmann & Son, located at 224-39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428.
The funeral mass will take place on November 1, 2025, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Sts. Joachim & Anne Roman Catholic Church, located at 218-27 Hollis Ave, Queens Village, NY 11429.
The committal service will follow on November 1, 2025, from 11:15 am to 12:00 pm at Maple Grove Cemetery, located at 127-15 Kew Gardens Rd, Kew Gardens, NY 11415.
