At the age of 13, the late Rev. Bessie McCain baptized her in the Unity Baptist Church of Mattituck, Long Island. In 1969, she graduated from Mattituck High School and the New York State Practical Nursing Program. She continued her education at Rockland State School of Nursing graduating with a Nursing Diploma in 1972. In 1981 she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Skidmore University and in 1990 she received her Master’s Degree of Nursing in Community Health and Health Care Administration from Long Island University. A Labor Management certificate from Cornell University in 1992 and a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Care Management in 1997 from New York University and a Legal Nurse Consultant / Paralegal Certificate in 1999 from Long Island University.
She was married to the Love of her Life Ange Boursiquot of Haiti on August 25, 1972. They have three amazing children Bryan Peter Drew, Michael Andre’ and Andrea Gabrielle M. She was a loving wife and protective mother to her natural children and to those she adopted in her heart and she will be missed by so many.
She was employed by Beekman Downtown Hospital for 42 years. She worked as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit for 18 years, 2 years as a Nursing Care Coordinator of a 28 bed medical unit. She also worked as a Nursing Supervisor and Nursing Coordinator for Beekman Downtown Hospital Visiting Nurse service for 2 years. For 20 years she worked as a Post –Anesthesia nurse and 30 years as a Chief Steward for Communication of America. She continued being the Chief Steward even after she had her Lung Transplant due to World Trade Center illness. She was a member of the New York State Board of Nursing for 17 years as a serving chairperson on the disciplinary moral character cases and Informal settlement cases. For 5 Years as a member of the Professional Assistance Program panel for New York State. In 2001 she had the Honor to be a part of the Commissioner Task Force on the Future of Nursing.
She leaves to mourn her departure husband Ange Boursiquot, one daughter Andrea Boursiquot, two sons Bryan and Michael Boursiquot. One sister Valerie Taylor and three brothers James Thomas Hubbard, Kevin Hubbard and Alan Hubbard. Two Daughter-in-laws Sadie Boursiquot and Milena Boursiquot four grandchildren Jonathan Bryan Boursiquot, Emily Boursiquot, Ariella Boursiquot and Angelina Boursiquot. She will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews and family and friends.
Barbara will always be remembered for her sweet, honest and quiet manner always willing to give a helping hand to people in need.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at R. Stutzmann & Son, 224 39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428. A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Unity Baptist Church, 655 Factory Avenue, Mattituck, NY 11952. A committal service will occur Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at New Bethany Cemetery, Route 25, Mattituck, NY 11952.
