Born on December 2nd 1941 in Colon Panama, Carlos was the third son of Frank and Lillian Gobourne. Frank and Lillian decided to migrate with their three sons Roger, Francisco and Carlos to Brooklyn New York during the 1950’s in pursuit of a better future, the American dream. Carlos attended Erasmus Hall High School where he graduated with honors and established a standard of excellence that would guide him through his entire life.
With a deep appreciation of architecture, drafting and urban planning, Carlos built a distinguished career while working at Tri-State Planning Commission and later became a successful executive with Goldman Sachs where his insight and strategic vision contributed to major developmental initiatives and organizational planning efforts not only in New York but also many urban east coast cities and communities. His work reflected precision, foresight and most of all integrity.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Carlos was known for his calm presence, wisdom and strong moral foundation. Carlos believed in responsibility, humanity and leadership by example. He found joy in traveling, fishing, bowling, watching sports, engaging in meaningful conversations, providing a helping hand to his family, friends and neighbors, but most importantly Carlos simply enjoyed spending time at home with those he loved.
Carlos’s life was a legacy of strength, kindness, stability and leadership. His legacy will continue through his loving wife Lydia, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors who he touched mentally and spiritually during his time here. All of whom he loved, all of whom he cherished.
