A Grandmothers Love (A Poem), 

 The first time you meet each other you don't remember but you know she does, 
" a grandchild, an extension of a child you raised and loved,
the tears past as you reminisce on how fast time past", 
She says she doesn't have favorites,
You know that's true,
But you don't want to stop convincing her that it is you,
From the first walk to the first talk,
She is always there,
The first birthday and Christmas,
Pride fills the air,
The love grows each and everyday,
The more you grow you remember, and the memories stay, 
The first day of school,
The first school play,
The school recitals,
and the report cards that weren't too great- but
with her help you succeed, 
You learn more and more with each book you read,
You have your mood swings and your fights,
But it is all love in the night, 
You learn from her to never sleep with hate in your heart, 
You say I love you every time you depart,
A grandmother love is one of a kind and to have one like mine is hard to find,
The day she left you remember, 
You question if your heart will ever render, 
Then you remember all the love you gave,
The path she paved, 
A woman so strong and brave,
A grandmothers love.


The thing I'll miss most about Grammy was how she was able to get her lessons in life through to us even when we thought we didn't need it. We'd often come over and think we knew best, as most teenagers do, and Grammy would tell us stories from the Bible or her younger years. Though we may not have always wanted to listen or even liked her advice, she had a way that made the story stick with you. She knew we loved to cook and eat shrimp, and now I haven't been able to eat or look at it since without thinking about how she told us the Bible says we shouldn't consume it. Though we told her that wouldn't stop us from eating it, she laughed with us and told us that's fine because Jesus still loves us but he knows. I love and miss you Grammy and thank you for making me feel like I was your granddaughter too <3

I met Catherine Davy ( or as I knew her, Grammy) when I became close friends with her granddaughter Alexis in 2015.  From the moment she met me, Grammy welcomed me into her home with open arms and an open heart. She was always warm, kind and loving. She also always called me “Shanique” instead of “Shanice”, but I knew that it was all out of love.  Grammy treated me like another one of her grandchildren, and for that I will be forever grateful for. I will miss her beautiful spirit, and I pray that she is resting in eternal peace. 

I deeply admired Grammy’s heart and spirit and I will miss her cute (and sometimes fresh) ramblings during FaceTime calls! I know how much she loved her family and how much she’ll be missed. I know God is taking care of her and will continue to take care of the people whose lives she’s touched.  Continue to Rest In Peace Grammy, love always Kahliik ❤️


Family, friends and whomever has taken the time to read this , my grandmother  has gone  to heaven. We all know she’s heading there anyways.The amount of time that she has dedicated to the lord she’s going to be right next to him once we all reach those pearly gates greeting us with a hug. I usually think about how nothing compared to family worship. Sunday school has nothing on family worship at all. The daily scripture, the songs even though she had the same tune she belted out those lyrics making sure he heard her. I will always cherish those days. I usually think about how even though we dreaded waking up in the morning it was worth it just seeing her smile when we arrived in the den. We had so many moments with her that I know that I can talk about her for hours about my experiences with her. The trips to the mall where she would shop forever in JCPenney, the laughs she had when we were in my mom’s room studying. She actually passed out from laughing one of those days that we had to use smelling salts to wake her up. Or that time when we all got kicked out of the restaurant for acting up by mom. My grandmother came outside and said I’m going to be with my grandchildren. We hung out in the parking lot until our food was ready. These moments… memories will always live on with me. It’s hard to think of a life without her. I had so much to show her. I had so much to accomplish for her. I wanted her to see me have a family. A house. I wanted her to experience everything that I could ever do. She won’t be able to see that physically but, I feel that her spirit will see it. 


My mom was a loving person not only to me but to the people she met along the way, when she wanted to buy a house. She was discouraged by others because they said she couldn’t do it by herself. Ironically, I was in my last year of nursing school. I had a parttime job that didn’t pay much at the time. She said to me Cheryl I don’t know if we can do this. I said to her mom don’t worry you we got this. I will buy the groceries and pay all the utilities. All you have to worry about is the mortgage. So that is what we did. It was a little rough in the beginning, but we stuck together and made it work by ourselves. I said to mom, why is it important for us to get this house. She said if anything happened to me you will always have a place to live. When I started dating my husband, I told her he was my friend, because you know how us mothers are, We are very protective over our children. Anyway, that relationship/ bond established by my mom and husband Neal muir was unbelievable. He was the son she never had. In fact, he was Mr. 100% to both my mom and dad.  Holidays, family vacations, birthdays have always been us. Wow what a change. Celebrating together as a family for over 29 years we feel lost. But I know god will take care of us and with the strength from family, extended family, friends, we will get through this. Thanks for all the support. 
Just one more thing.

My mother gave me all the things. she made a cloudy day turn bright. My mother taught me how to love. And now I know my mother is the best. 
Grandma 
You were so sweet. Like honey to a bee. You always tell me stories as I sat on your knee. You always make me giggle. When I see your smiling face. You make my world such a special Happy friendly place.

Dear Cheryl and Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences for your immeasurable loss.  
Cheryl and I met in college and Mom and I met through Cheryl. I always appreciated their relationship. Mom always ensured we had what we needed to get through our school day, Whether  it be food to eat or a ride  to school. I remember her admiring us getting ready to go to the Club and giving us her blessings as we indulged in our shenanigans. She never criticized or complained about our silly school girl behavior.  She always allowed us to do our young adult thing. I’m sure it was because she trusted that she had done a great job rearing her children.
Mom always made me feel so welcome in her home and for that I am very grateful! My most fondest memory of Her is the way she called Cheryl’s name, it sounded like a sweet song. Her smile and laughter was infectious. Mom dedicated her life to you all, and in the end you did the same for her.
 Please know if you need anything I am here for each and every one of you. I love you. Rest In Peace Momma Joyce, Rest In Peace.

In my grandmother's house there was a secret hiding place between two bedrooms that shared joining closets. As a child, I would run from room to room through this "magical" closet as the sound of laughter filled the room. On hot summer days in New York, we would barbecue in your background as music notes floated through the air.  The statue of the homeless man feeding the birds near your piano that I played so many times. The walks to Key Food on the corner. The Minute Maid in your fridge. The time I was young and used the steering wheel to hold myself up while you were driving to pull cheese without knowing the dangers of it all.  Your trips from New York City to Virginia to see me graduate from high school and college. The support you gave my student film by letting me use your house as a set.  Days, weeks, months, and years have gone by, but these memories and more will last forever. Thank you for my mother, Sandra Allyson Downey. Thank you for all the good times, and thank you for being my grandmother. 

Here's an old photo of us, even though I have many. This is Alexis Muir the granddaughter. Just want to say thank you to everyone who has been reaching out to us. Grammy you were truly an angel on earth and now you'll forever be my angel in heaven. Thank you for raising us, having Sunday school at home, coming on vacation, and giving us endless laughs and love. I have not stopped crying but I know you'll always be looking out for me. You were a character, so fresh so funny and so caring. I will miss making you give me kisses, pose with the kissy face, lifting up your legs when you did not want to talk to me. I'll miss coming home from work going to your room next door and screaming "good morning grammy". I love you forever and always, ill never stop remembering all the good times (too many to count). You were always a fighter and we never stopped fighting for you. I know you gave it your all till the very end. May your soul rest in peace, i love you.

Dear, Cheryl, Neil and family. Our condolences to the whole family. My memory of my Mama Katharine when she was in the hospital although in pain but always gave me a beautiful smile. Her grace I will always cherish and never forget. May god give her highest place in heaven (Amen)💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

Cheryl, Neil and family.  I’m so sorry for your loss but I will always have the memory of her classy Jamaican voice calling for Cheryl at work ... “Hello, may I please speak to Cheryl “.  She always said the same words.  Never deflected and said “is Cheryl there?”  Or  “can I talk to Cheryl?”.  She always, always said “Hello, may I please speak to Cheryl “ so her kind polite voice will always be in my memory.  God bless Catherine! 💝. May God give you the strength, Cheryl, to get through this difficult time.  We ❤️ you.
