Cornelia Anne McEnaney died February 14, 2022, at Chapin Home for the Aging in Jamaica, New York, at the age of 95. Born in Brooklyn to F. Cornelia (Doyle) and James McEnaney on August 19, 1926, Anne, as she was known to family and friends, lived most of her life in Flushing, New York. After graduating from Forest Hills High School, she attended Queens College for two years before entering a long career in accounting, working for a variety of international corporations. She eventually returned to Queens College as a part-time student, earning a bachelors degree in accounting in 1979. A devout Catholic, Anne was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Parish, where for some time she sang in the choir.
Anne spent many happy hours doing genealogical research, whether in the New York Public Library; writing away for census records, birth and death certificates; or traipsing through cemeteries looking for relatives’ gravestones. In 1978, she presented her nieces and nephews with their family tree. Although Anne’s life revolved around her family, she relished following politics, and even in her later years would excitedly recall how in her youth, she loved listening to her father and uncles talk politics. She was a homebody who also enjoyed travel, from driving the east coast to taking cross country bus tours with the Franciscans.
Anne is survived by her nieces, Maureen and Mary Elizabeth Gorman, nephew, John Gorman, brother-in-law, John Gorman, several grand-nieces and -nephews, and cousins. Her sister, Mary Joan Gorman, and nephew, Michael Gorman, died in 2018.
