Donovan Keith McCormack, known as Johnny to family and friends, passed away in Queens, New York on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the age of 66. In his final days, Johnny was surrounded with much love from his children and grandchildren.
Johnny was born on July 7, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to Amy Louise Chong and Keith Lloyd McCormack. He moved to New York in 1971 with his mother, stepfather and siblings. Johnny graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and enlisted into the United States Air Force thereafter. In his last assignment, he was stationed at the Ellsworth Air Force base in South Dakota where he met and married his wife, Celeste Hull. Johnny later left the Air Force and moved back to Queens, N.Y. with his wife and children to be closer to the rest of the family.
Johnny was skilled in many areas, including computer technology, electronics and refrigeration. He was generous with his time and skills to anyone who asked for his help. He was a hard worker and a committed father and grandfather. Johnny retired in July of 2020 after many years working with the City of New York.
Johnny enjoyed dabbling with computers and electronics in general. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an important and inspirational part of their lives.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Keith Lloyd McCormack and his sister, Lesline Elizabeth Chong.
He is survived by his mother, Amy Chong, and his stepfather Lerick Chong, wife Celeste McCormack, sisters, Patrice McCormack (Leslie); Arnella Brown (Waldo); brother Maurice Chong (Thelma), children: Camille McCormack-Pottinger (Earl); Keith McCormack, Yvette McCormack (John); Lesline McCormack (Lafayette); Amy McCormack, grandchildren; Elijah, Briana, Joshua, Brielle, Avery, Jacob, Kevin, Eve & Emma.
