Ernesto “Ernie” Del Valle Eustaquio went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 30 at 11:45pm. He passed away in peaceful sleep at home, having lived a full life of eighty-nine years.
Ernie was born to Gaudencio and Florentina Eustaquio on September 10, 1932 in Manila. During his courtship with Socorro “Coring” Policarpio, he became born again in Christ and maintained a strong relationship with the Lord for the rest of his life. He married Coring in 1958 and raised two sons and Coring’s niece, for a period of eight years.
Ernie had a successful career in officework. He was a debate stenographer in Manila City Hall and Philippine Congress, and worked under President Ferdinand Marcos and at the Office of the Prime Minister. In 1983, Ernie and his two sons followed Coring to live in Queens, New York. He worked at several offices until he retired in 2002.
Being the journalist he was, Ernie was always taking pictures and videos of his family, recording his voice, and documenting his thoughts. He loved to eat chocolate, play tennis, sing old songs, and spend time with his grandchildren. In 2013, at the age of 81, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He lived out the final years of his life at home with his wife and eldest son, and treated his caregivers so kindly that they all loved him dearly.
Ernie is survived by his wife, two sons, niece, daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, three sisters, and younger brother. He is remembered for his gentleness, patience, kindness, compassion, generosity, humility, and wonderful singing voice. Though he will be greatly missed here on earth, we know he is rejoicing in heaven!
