Esperanza "Iris" Rivera

She was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Isabel Ramos Alicea and Juan Bautista Soto Torres. Iris was one of nine children, five of whom predeceased her. She is survived by two of her three devoted sons, Hector and Jaimmie. Gilbert predeceased her. Iris is also survived by her two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. She lived most of her adult life in New York. Iris was an extremely dedicated mother to all her sons, especially to her beloved Gilbert who brought great joy to her and everyone he met with his love of music, dancing and the joy of life. They were inseparable. Iris loved her garden and had a proverbial “green thumb.” She was loved by her extended family and was a devoted member of her church, where she made many cherished and wonderful friends who were like family to her.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at R. Stutzmann & Son, 224-39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428. In accordance with her wishes, Iris will be buried with her beloved Gilbert.
